Sunflower seeds are originally from Peru and Mexico and were later introduced in Europe as an ornamental plant before discovering that thanks to its high fat content, the seeds can be used to make oil. This made its cultivation more widespread.

Sunflower seeds contain high levels of fat and thus have high energy content. They aren’t truly suitable for diets, yet are worth using in the case of malnutrition.
Sunflower seeds are a great source of Vitamins B and E. As far as its mineral content is concerned, it has rather high levels of selenium and magnesium along with flavonoids, which function as antioxidants.
Use:
The seeds can be eaten raw, mixed in cereals or the dough of cookies, pastries and bread. They can also be sprinkled on top of salad or used in plant-based fritters.
The seeds can be ground and used as a sandwich spread, in a range of different flavors.
