Himalayan salt originates from the Punjab region of Pakistan. To this very day, it is mostly hand mined and only minimally processed. It contains no additives and its color is due to its mineral content (iron) and not artificial coloring.
Significance, effects:
Similarly to table salt, it consists mainly (98%) of sodium chloride, along with numerous other minerals. This might seem attractive, yet when we take into consideration the small amount used for salting dishes, the amount of minerals supplied in this manner is practically close to zero. Those who have to monitor their salt intake due to health reasons cannot use excessive amounts of Himalayan salt either and it’s also not the best choice for those who were told by their doctor to use iodized salt as Himalayan salt contains no iodine (which must be provided by other sources).
Its use is also identical to common table salt and has no unusual taste and is dissolved in the same manner. It has other uses apart from dietary purposes, for example, bathing salt mixtures also feature Himalayan salt.
