Raisins were consumed as early as 2000 BC in the area of Egypt and Persia. Raisins can be made from numerous varieties of grapes while the drying of the fruit begins on the vines before the actual drying takes place to accelerate the process. One kg of raisins requires at least 4-5 kg of juicy grapes.
Significance, effects:
The high energy content of raisins is due to their sugar, therefore they are not to be consumed in the case of diets or diabetes, only in small amounts mixed with fibrous dishes (e.g. oatmeal). However, if the goal is a rapid increase of energy, raisins are a better option than, for example, glucose, chocolate or carbonated beverages as it contains many important minerals apart from sugar, particularly potassium.
Use:
Raisins can be used to spice up even the simplest leavened dough, Christmas or other festive dishes. On a daily basis, raisins are perfect for muesli, fruit salads, porridge, in energy bars, crackers or even added to yogurt.
A handful of raisins can be added to desserts and even salads.
