Coconut is the fruits of the coconut palm, which can grow to thirty meters in height. The plant’s origin is yet to be identified, yet it is probably indigenous to Southeast Asia where coconuts suitable for germination drifted across the sea to more distant regions of a tropical climate apart from being spread by human beings. Coconut chips are made of the white meat of the coconut.
Significance, effects: As opposed to most other fruits, coconut mostly consists of fat and not carbohydrates. It mainly consists of saturated fatty acids, yet most of these are so-called medium-chain fatty acids, which are easily digested and provide a quick source of energy without exciting the gallbladder. Coconuts contain a high amount of fiber, facilitating digestion, along with significant level of magnesium. Additionally, they contain iron and calcium yet have no significant vitamin content.
Use: Coconut chips are mainly used in sweets or pastries. They can also be added to cereals or porridge or when making oriental dishes.
