The canned version is usually used because fresh bamboo shoots are very expensive and only available in certain seasons, a seasonal commodity.
Due to its crunchy texture, it is a very popular ingredient in wok-prepared dishes of various Asian cuisines.
It can also be used in salads, pasta dishes, and can even be grilled.
